Well organized on the statewide level but the local group, which had so many good ideas, fizzled.
I was greatly impressed with the amount of work the Vermont Crafts Council put into this event.
Very positive experience. It fulfilled 3 goals. I met my local townspeople, I connected with new buyers and lovers of art, and I kept my friends and clients informed of my new location.
Some confusion among people in this area about who was their regional coordinator and who to get maps from. Next year, better communication about this but otherwise Great!
Enable us, as a group, to do credit card sales for less (as Ted Schiffman has done).
The newspaper coverage was excellent and we were delighted with the number of people from other parts of the state who came by.
Being on the map brought in curousity seekers only. All my sales were to people that brought in with my postcards.
I gained a lot of marketing ideas by being part of this event.
It was great fun and a lot of work this first year converting my studio to a show room, getting a good body of work together.
Very intense and rewarding two days!
Exhausting and wonderful. Training session was amazing. I was shoved and empowered into promoting my artwork.
This is a great event and a nice opportunity to share my work and educate people about my craft. I had hoped for more visitors.
Not enough people visited my studio in proportion to time and money I spent.
No suggested improvements. I expected more visitors because I was the only site in my area.
It was very enjoyable.
I didn't have any expectations but was surprised at the number of visitors and sales.
It was good. People were very appreciative and interested.
I was just happy to see so many people come to see my work, to talk to them and to hear their appreciation of what I do . It was a good experience.
Heard from a lot of people that we were well mapped.
I'm new to the area and this helped me to get the word out.
People were wonderful and I appreciated their support.
I enjoyed it. People were interested to talk to me.
It was puzzling. I had lots of products for sale but sold nothing. However I did get orders, and traffic to my website was the greatest, year to date.
I need strategies for getting visitors that stopped at my neighbors to stop at my house too.
Although this was my first year, I was pleased with the turnout. Informational meeting was very helpful.
Lots of second home owners. One couple said they found the map in CT.
Most people knew about the tour and wanted to know about the artist and the work.
We were pleased to host our three demonstrators. They were terrific.
The first year was great, a fluke I guess. Last year was mediocre and this year was a bust. I guess it just isn't for me.
We need more feature articles about southern Vermont artists/studios
Getting repeat customers was rewarding. People really appreciated the bottled water I had.
Don't change a thing it's a great way to kick off the season. Before Open Studio this was a cold uneventful weekend holiday.
Frankly I think I might just pay the $90 to have someone make me get the studio cleaned up!!!
Mostly, we do custom windows so we don't expect to sell during Open Studio. We did have a lot of serious interest that may turn into commissions.
I enjoy the event as primarily an educational one, a chance to show people what we do.
As a venue, I appreciate the fact that almost everybody that I see during this weekend is genuinely interested, as opposed to a craft fair where thousands of people go through but only a small percentage take the time to learn about what I do.
I am still getting orders from previous years. Great opportunity to share my work.
There were just too many tag sales, etc, happening in our community to effectively compete.
It is something I enjoy, whether or not it makes real sense in a business way.
It has built up over the years, and people keep coming back to do a different part of the state every year.
Met some wonderful interesting people, plus 3 big orders!! A good weekend!
It was rewarding. I met some interesting people, saw some friends I hadn't seen in a long time.
I like the fact that this allows artists to be financially independant of the galleries. No one is taking a cut of sales.
It is an incredible amount of work to get my small studio ready for sales, but the more ready I am, the better I do.
I think it is too early in the year.
Participation has fallen off in our town as other towns have cashed in on the event. It has become less about visiting artists and more about towns promoting themselves.
It was a great way to introduce the public to papermaking.
It was a full weekend with so many wonderful appreciative visitors who promise to come again.
Good experience. Have you thought of producing the maps in book form instead of folding form?
Although I didn't sell much this year, the prices I have on some of the pieces often require some thought before a sale is made. I received orders for three pieces after last year's event.
The weekend went very well. We will be meeting as a group to discuss partnering earlier with inns and restaurants in our area.
Keep up the program. It seems to be getting better with each year.
An extremely pleasant event! Lovely visitors.
This event has grown to be a major event for the entire state to support and recognize. Good job.
It was a very enjoyable experience. There were quite a few repeat customers and a few very interesting people from out of state, professionals who know art.
Lots of fun. Being associated with the Huntington Valley Hub made it much easier for me.
Partner with tourism entities to put coupons on map for stays in a specific area. One per year and see if it has had an impact.
This was the best event sales-wise in 13 years. Many more people had the tour map than in year's past.
Some people were amazed that all this great art was right here in their town and they didn't even know it.
People wanted a way to use the website to create an itinerary of their top ten studios.
The only problem with Open studio is that we artists don't get to visit each other's studio.
I really enjoy the whole weekend. I love to meet my friends and neighbors and show them what I do.
I enjoyed it. Why not do all three days of the weekend?
Your work has been very supportive.
It just doesn't work in our area, but it is a good idea and we liked the way it was run.
I'm happy with the event as it is. No changes needed.
I always enjoy it. I would do a fall event as well if you ever decide to run a second one.
As always, I enjoyed it.
I really enjoy the personal contact.
Have small poster and make it the same color as the sign. Had a great time (a lot of work too) and now I have a clean studio.
I had lots of fun. It's very well organized.
I'm going to take a break next year and visit other studios.
Great time, good sales, good event.
Low attendance this year and sales down by half.
Visitors really like the fact that there are clusters of artisans here-and-there in the woods of Vermont.
Although I didn't have as many sales as last year, I had double the attendance and felt I got a lot of good response and exposure.
I think it is a great event and well done.
I moved my studio which brought in less of my old summer people who were also buyers.
My usual answer remains in force-make more Art and wait for the world to come to it's senses.
